Journal 27 – Why are there so many Christian Sects?
UncategorizedI learned the bible damn near inside and out, cover to cover, probably 16 years ago. My interpretations are quite my own, relevant to what I see. Way back when, it all began with a man named Martin Luther who created a catastrophe among the Vatican ruling doctrine officials who never strayed from the concept of the scriptures. Everyone has interpretive thoughts. That goes without saying. It’s up to our own analytical prowess to identify how things transpired in biblical times. Martin Luther took his inquisitive analysis to the higher-ups within the Vatican without general remorse about his strong views that swiftly lead to a sudden fracturing, which would invariably lead to what we see today. There are more than 45,000 recognized Christian sects because of what Martin Luther did. His argument opened up Pandora’s box in a slow chain reaction that blew up Christianity.
This massive denominational exodus never occurred within the branches of Judaism or Islam at all. Judaism keeps only 4 different denominations whereas Islam has but two different denominations. But 45,000 for Christianity? Something went extremely awry. Money played a big part of it and today it does as well. The old guard is still there and thriving, made up of Catholicism, Protestantism, Orthodoxy, and a few others. They are predominantly ritualistic in their approach to mass attendance. I grew up Catholic and have seen through the T.V. screen the modern version of Christianity, which entirely veer away from the old ritualistic ways. Instead they have moved toward staged preaches where reverends take the pulpit and say what is on their mind in an unscripted manner. Again, today, is say 45,000 thousand Christian sects. That’s a hard number to wrap my head around.
But, I do understand the rationality behind the whopping figure, not entirely, but I more than do. Men and women take it upon themselves to preach the word of the gospel to surrounding areas where anyone can walk and have a listen. Considering the people came to see the personal approach of the preacher, it’s only fair that their moxy be a part of why the attendees keep seeing them rather than someone else. Therefore, once people decide to move toward donation giving, they understand they are giving to that person who sways their heart rather than the religion.
I think there will be a lot more preachers who are authentically talented, who would be willing to join the Catholic Church as full time priests if the Church would relent on their clause where priests are not allowed to become married with children, which is a basic human element. But only deacons of the Catholic Church are allowed this right. Some people decide they can handle abstinence, which makes them a proper fit for the Catholic fraternal priesthood. As a child, my parents thought I was going to become a priest. I was so into it. I was an altar boy at two seperate churches at the same time, splitting my time. I would work Saturdays at one Church and Sundays at another church. But then I realized you can’t be married or be in a relationship, not too long after.
This is causation for even more fracturing within the Christian world. There was a time during segregation between the cacasians and the negros where there were white’s only signs hovered over water fountains and public establishments, where and when negro men, women and children could be apart of society in a formal way. Nor could they vote. Oftentimes I question the legitimacy of Rome’s mandate requiring priests to live a non-relationship status as a blank prerequisite for entering their establishment. Who knows? I might have become one.
I’m not saying that I would have definitely been one, but it could have been an option. I wonder if there will be an abolishment of some sort within the Catholic hierarchy similar to the civil rights movement of the 1960’s where one day, men who wished they were Catholic Priests will be able to become as such and be able to refrain from abstinence. If Catholic Deacons are allowed to preach under special permissions, I don’t see why they can’t be formally paid a full weekly salary as an official employee. Alternatively, I do like the notion that they may keep the title of Deacon though, so that there is a recognizable aspect to their type of ordination. This would cause an explosion of new growth within the Catholic Church in my speculation, reversing all those tens of thousands of Christian sects that occurred as a result of the Protestant Reformation Act which kicked it all off.
